Portabello in the no-wake zone off Bell Island

After the first year on Bell Island, we had some idea what we wanted in a boat. Fast, durable, reliable. After researching different boats, materials, and manufactures, we decided on an Eagle Craft boat from Diagle Welding in Cambell River, BC. Eagle Craft web site  http://www.eaglecraft.bc.ca/index.html

We looked at a number of different boats including the 22' and 24' Sea Sport, Safe Boats and others.

We decided on Eagle Craft for a number of reasons.

Aluminum--After almost hitting a few logs and rocks in our old boat, we decided that aluminum is more durable, stronger, and less likely to sink when we hit that log someday. Fiberglass shatters, aluminum dents. Hopefully.

Craftsmanship--When comparing Eagle Craft boats to other aluminum boats, the quality of the welds, the choice of components, and thickness of the aluminum in the hull made Eagle Craft the best choice possible.

Customizable--The best part of Eagle Craft how customizable the boats are. From a list of options, we chose what we wanted. Size of cabin, size of engine, type of engine, color, layout of dash, and may other options. This made the boat almost as good as a custom built boat.

The final boat is quiet, fast, and fun. Except for a few bugs that we had to work out and a number of small "problems" that we would change if we could, the boat ended up being a great choice.

The Portobello mascot.  I was thinking of making a silhouette of "Killer Mushroom" and putting it below the name on the back of the boat.

Construction process. Each week Diagle Welding would send us updates of their progress. We watched as our boat was built from the keel up.
